Ultra real tale of a young boy coming to terms with his deafness following an accident...and the distortion of his perspective as a result.
Moving and beautiful, this is an unusual title which begins with a really clever usage of silent imagery and progresses from there into something strange and poignant.
It's cleverly written, with the boy pointing out the things we usually don't see or take for granted. This well written story takes the form of a stream of the boy's consciousness.
The words go hand in hand with the haunting imagery which looks like nothing else I have ever seen in comics but works really well.
The 2 combine to create an evocative and spellbinding narrative.
But then, this comic is very much the sum of its parts. Taken as individual components, from the art which is a mixture of photography, childrens drawings, computer imagery and oil painting, to the writing which ranges from snatches of conversation to prose to a chain of thought, you might not initially see much beauty.
But, take it as the sum of its parts and it all comes together to create one of the most interesting and beautiful comics you could ever hope to read.
