I wanted someone to come here...but the one I wanted...wasn't this man.
We have now passed the halfway point of this powerful psychological thriller, but there is no sign of slowing down. The continuing theme of rewarding the readers continues in spades in this seventh volume (Vol. 13 was just released in Japan after a long hiatus).
Readers of the series will not want any spoilers, and non-readers won't understand a summary of the plot of this volume, so I will be careful how I continue, but there may be small spoilers.
What we learn early on is Tokyo Police detective Amamiya's mind is shared with at least two other personalities. Recent volumes have revealed the "how" and in this volume we start to get insight into the "why". Beyond the satisfaction of secrets revealed, this is a nail-biting adventure of an volume. Most of the story is set on the hijacked plane from Volume 6, and the lack of agreement between the hijackers is haunting, creating a very dark tone and little hope for the plane's passengers.
Along with a lot that progresses in leaps and bounds, this is another action-packed volume. Again, this colume contains elements of "pure manga", scenes that can only be done best in the manga form. I cannot imagine a live-action or even anime retelling of this episode carrying the same weight that it does as it jumps off the page.
MPD Psycho never goes for cheap thrills. You'll find no panty shots or sweat drops. The first couple volumes seperate the casual from the dedicated readers, and those that stick around are rewarded again and again. MPD Psycho is the mature thriller horror manga every adult manga reader should dare to read.
