Kujibiki Unbalance Volume 2 (Kio Shimoku and Koume Keito)

Del Rey Manga

Kujibiki Unbalance Volume

Genre: Drama

Rating: Older Teen

Price: $10.99

In the second volume of Kujibiki Unbalance, the incoming members of next year's student council face even bigger challenges. The first story in the book revolves around the current student council giving the incoming members of the student council a daunting task: To weed out and follow some spies on the school's campus.

Things don't start out that well for the rag-tag bunch. The president, Ritsuko, assigns a member of the Rikkyoin Special Security Service to assist in their task. And the member, a friend of Tokino, provides for an unexpected twist that Chihiro, the incoming student council president, and the others didn't see.

In another story, it the birthday of Ritsuko. Chihiro and Tokino are in for a surprise, though. The party, as it turns out, is only partially being held to celebrate Ritsuko's birthday. The announcement that ensues startles both Chihiro and Tokino.

But what also is a surprise is that Ritsuko asks Chihiro to dance with her. For Chihiro, the move is a bit of a surprise, but it seems as though Ritsuko has other motives for asking him.

Another story revolves around what happens when a science experiment goes wrong. And Chihiro is on the receiving end of that. But what happens in the chaos could show him what others really think of him.

And another story involves the kidnapping of Koyucki and how the incoming student council members deal with her disappearance. In addition, her abduction is just the surface behind some interesting history around the school and some of its students.

Throughout the volume, what just doesn't feel right is the relationship between Ritsuko and Chihiro. It is examined only peripherally in this volume and it feels like the story is left a bit wanting because of it. Had a bit more time been spend on it, it would have made the volume much better.

But the end of the tale is what sets this volume apart. Unfortunately, the title ends with this volume and the ending sequence is certainly a stand-out portion. The last few pages in particular provide a heartwarming end to Kujibiki Unbalance.

7.5

Summing Up:

The series ends on an up note, but the relationships explored in the volume leave a bit to be desired.
