Negima!? Neo Volume 1 (Ken Akamatsu, author; Takuya Fujima, art)

Del Rey Manga

Negima!? Neo Volume

Genre: Drama, Adventure

Rating: Older Teen (16+)

Price: $10.99

Negi Springfield is a prodigy. At 10 years old, he is now a graduate of a magic school in England. But after graduating, he gets his first real life challenge: A job.

His job is actually a real world training assignment, and his is to act as a teacher in Japan.

At Mahora Academy, the school Negi is to teach at, he has a rough first encounter with some of the students there. As a bad situation slowly starts to turn worse, an administrator finds Negi and helps him to his classroom.

But when he gets there, he has a bit of a surprise: He's teaching at a junior high school, so the students are older and taller than him, and the female students he met outside school are ones he has to teach.

But things get a bit more complicated when Negi has some accidents that have some unexpected consequences. But he's not discouraged and continues to try to fulfill his training assignment and become a great magician, just like his father was.

Negi has some problems to solve, however. First, he must deal with the realities of his living quarters, which are less then ideal. Then he must find out about two of his students, as they are always skipping class, the other students say.

As Negi gets closer to solving where those students are, he comes across a problem and the solution is him. Negi, however, is ready for a battle, especially when that means saving those who are closest to him.

Fortunately, a connection is made and Negi and those close to him are able to be saved.

This series is based on the Negima! anime and gives a new take on the Negima! story. And if the art looks familiar, it's because it's drawn by Takuya Fujima, the creator of Free Collars Kingdom.

Ultimately, Negima!? Neo is a fun start to a new series. However, some of the situations encountered in the volume are a bit too cliched.

Summing Up:

A fun start to the series, but ultimately it has a bit too much cliched characters and situations for my liking.
